Don Rufino is a respected elder from the specialty coffee capital of Honduras, Marcala. When we asked Ana why she had referred us to Don Rufino (who is now mostly retired from the leadership of his cooperative) she shared: "Because he was in a leadership position for years, yet he never stole. If you don't believe me, go take a look at his house."
And so we did, and we were awestruck at the humility in which Rufino and his family live. Don Rufino is 65 years old yet still works his plantation each year, with gusto. When we first met him his hands were (proudly) covered in dirt. Though some would say Don Rufino is in the twilight of his coffee career, you certainly wouldn't know it after he gives you a tour of his farm and shares with you his plans for the future.
Tasting Notes: Don Rufino's coffee has a bold profile for a medium roast coffee, with hints of nutmeg and rose with and an ever-so-gentle white pepper aroma.
